Basic Tech Rules & Regulations

  • All cars must have seat belts.
  • All cars require a 16oz or larger radiator overflow can.
  • All vehicles must drain antifreeze prior to racing (except 1995 or newer stock car and trucks with sealed factory coolant system). Bring a plastic container.
  • No plastic or glass fuel filters allowed.
  • No plastic oil pressure lines allowed.
  • Vehicle windshield must be free of cracks.
    All vehicles must have a functional neutral safety switch.
  • All batteries must be securely mounted (no bungee cords, rope, wire etc.) Rear firewall mandatory when relocated battery in trunk. If sealed battery box is used, must be vented outside of body. When battery is relocated a master power cut off switch must be installed on rear most part of vehicle. Batteries may be relocated into the driver or passenger compartments when a jacket and pants or suit meeting at least a SFI Spec 3.2A/15, and SFI Spec 3.3/5 gloves and shoes are used. When the battery is mounted inside drivers compartment, battery must be located in a sealed .024-inch steel or titanium, or .032-inch aluminum box.
  • The trunk and passenger compartment of the vehicle must be empty prior to racing and all stereo amplifiers and speakers must be securely mounted.
  • Drivers must wear full length pants and shirt (no shorts, muscle shirts, tank tops, open toe sandals or clothing made of nylon type material allowed) T shirts OK.
  • As outlined in the 2024 NHRA Rule Book drivers (if required) must use a helmet meeting Snell or SFI Specifications. An NHRA approved helmet is required for cars running 13.99 or quicker. A full face helmet is mandatory on all cars running 9.99 or quicker. See NHRA rule book for additional requirements on individual classes . All drivers of convertibles regardless of ET must wear a Snell approved helmet (See below for helmet regulations).
  • A drive shaft loop is required on all cars running on racing slicks. Not required on cars running 11.49 and slower ET’s on street tires.

13.99 seconds (8.59 1/8th)  Drive Line Loop with slicks – Approved helmet (Full face in open cars) – SFI 3.2A/1 Jacket in vehicles equipped with non-OEM nitrous oxide, turbochargers or superchargers

13.49 seconds (8.25 1/8th)  Roll bar in convertibles  – SFI seat belts in convertibles

11.99 seconds (7.49 1/8th)  Metal, screw-in valve stems mandatory in tubeless tires, front and rear; unless OEM tire pressure monitor sensor is used. – Arm Restraints (open cars)

11.49 seconds (7.35 1/8th)  SFI 1.1 or 1.2 Flywheel / Clutch – SFI 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 or 9.1 Flywheel shield  – SFI 3.2A/1 approved jacket 6 point roll bar  – SFI approved seat belts

10.99 seconds (6.99 1/8th) or Super Street  – SFI 4.1 Transmission Shield, or at 135 mph  – Locking transmission dipstick tube  – Aftermarket axles and axle retainers  – SFI Harmonic Balancer Roll Cage with altered floor pans – 135 mph and above – A ribbon-type or SFI 27.1 mesh-type window net is mandatory – Ignition cut-off on all bikes / snowmobiles that exceed 135 mph

9.99 seconds (6.39 1/8th) or Super Gas or 135 mph  – NHRA Chassis Certification  – NHRA Competition License  – SFI jacket & pants 3.2A/5  – SFI neck collar & gloves 3.3/1  – SFI 29.1 flexplate / 30.1 flexplate shield (AT equipped cars) – Full Face Helmet meeting Snell or SFI specifications- An SFI 27.1 ribbon-type or mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-bodied car running 7.49 (*4.49) or quicker.

150 mph  – Parachute  – Head and neck restraint device/system meeting SFI 38.1

  • Regarding Nitrous Oxide (NO2) – The use of Nitrous Oxide is allowed in all Street Legal classes provided that any Nitrous bottle located in the drivers compartment be equipped with a pressure relief valve and vented to the outside of the vehicle. All Nitrous bottles must be securely mounted (plastic mounting brackets not allowed), be stamped with and meet the minimum DOT 1800 PSI rating and be clearly identified as Nitrous Oxide
  • Regarding Motorcycles – All bikes must be registered and insured for street use. All drivers are required to wear a full face helmet meeting the minimum Snell 2015 or SFI 31.1 specifications. Leather jackets, leather boots / shoes (shoes must extend above ankle) and leather gloves are mandatory for all motorcycle drivers. Full leathers or SFI spec 40.1/2 race suit mandatory for all riders of motorcycles running 120 MPH or faster (regardless of ET). NHRA Competition License required for drivers of motorcycles running 9.99 or quicker ET’s. All motorcycles must be equipped with a positive ignition cut-off (factory kill switch permitted) switch attached to the driver with a lanyard. Wheelie Bars not permitted.
  • All vehicles must be capable of meeting the NHRA safety requirements according to the vehicles ET and MPH capability (for further information regarding Safety Requirements please refer to the 2024 NHRA Rule Book available here and also in the Souvenir Stand and also at most high performance automotive shops throughout Greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley).
