King of the Track
W - Dale Green, .145/768/7.816134.85
RU - Stew Kienas, .031/11.21/11.638/113.60

In this race between the day's winners in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Bike we saw some exciting action. Seattle's Dale Green was here on a rare visit in his quick Top Comp/Super Pro digger, and did not even know a Wally and title were on the line. In a near-dark final, it was Kienas having shifter problems leaving the door open for Green to take the win. Drama earlier saw Pro winner, and track championship contender, John Korfiatis break the rear end in his Nova. He would now have to find a ride for Sunday in his epic battle for the title with Chris Stone...

Super Pro
W - Dale Green, Kent WA, '97 Mullis dragster, 632 Chev, .017/7.65/7.657/168.38
RU - Zak Clarke, Surrey BC, '76 Vega, 414 Chev, .011/10.84/10.825/131.79

Points leader Brad Vinje looses in round one to Jimmy Behnke, making it close between he and defending champ Ron McKenzie...along with a few more going into that last race of 2006.

Pro
W - John Korfiatis, Richmond BC, '70 Novan 355 Chev, .046/11.49/11.545/113.76
RU - Roger Hay, Chilliwack BC, '65 Chevy II, 406 SBC, .115/10.10/10.137/131.15

The win here for Korfiatis puts him four rounds up on Chris Stone, but with a dead horse, the door is open for BCCCA member Stone to make a big move.

Sportsman
W - Collin Moore, Chilliwack BC, '63 Ford, 302 Ford, .059/13.58/13.552/100.03
RU - Phil Marvetz, Bellingham WA, '72 Plymouth, 225 slant six, .081/13.87/13.807/92.31

Motorcycle
W - Stew Kienas, Mission BC, '89 Honda, .011/11.25/11.290/112.58
RU - Kevin Brennan, Chilliwack BC, '92 Suzuki 1400, .052/9.02/9.027/142.74

In a final between the two racers gunning for the track championship, many-time winner Kienas made it very, very close going into Sunday's final points race.

BC Super Shifters
W - Terry Hoogstins, Maple Ridge BC, '57 VW, .055/10.79/12.942/55.52
RU - Mike Ackerman, Vernon BC, '67 Cuda, 540 Dodge, foul -.015/9.46/12.263/64.81

Lordco Super Combo Series
W - Tom Brown S/St
RU - Al Hampton S/St

Junior Dragster
W - Hope 'Bam Bam' Allen, Mission BC, '04 RPC, .046/8.07/8.063/78.98
RU - Gary Howe Jr. Gig harbor WA, '99 Utah, .049/8.14/8.096/79.25

With the win here today, Allen moved into the points lead with a number of drivers close behind going into Sunday.

Hot Rod
W - Brad 'I don't need no stinking hood' Owens, Bellingham WA, 55 Chev, 364 SBC, .210/10.97/11.038/120.27
RU - Bill Clifford, Chilliwack, '27 Ford T, 327 Chev, .061/11.03/10.666/111.84

For the second time this season Owens blows the hood off during qualifying, but goes on to win the race. Clifford's runner-up ties the BCCCA member with Martin Dykstra. Sunday will be interesting.

Sunday October 1

RJ Enterprises/VP Fuels Canada West Doorslammer
W- Dean Woods, Duncn BC, '66 Nova, 565 ProMag, .025/8.61/8.615/157.34
RU - Dave Warren, Richmond BC, '62 Belair, .179/7.79/7.800/170.58
#1 Qualifier & Top Speed - Jay Syvertson, Surrey BC, '57 Cameo pickup, 6.738/207.94

It was a fine weekend for the slammers of doors. A total of 23 cars ran with 20 making it into round one. The memorial parade for Bill Visser opened the program with all the doorslammers along with a couple dozen of the area's finest street rods rolling slowly down the track in remembrance of 'The Old Timer'. Mike Bedsworth wins the burnout contest Saturday in spectacular fashion with an 330 foot tire toaster. Honorable mention to Glen 'Big Foot' Norman whose sideways 200 footer saw the sanitary '58 Vette just barely tag the wall on a super-sideways smoker!

Super Pro
W - Al Quigley, Aldergrove BC, '93 Mustang, 351 Ford, .022/10.57/10.600/119.88
RU - Zak Clarke, Surrey BC, '76 Vega, 414 Chev, .034/10.87/10.906/137.71

The all 'Surrey-in-a-Hurry' final was anit-climactic as McKenzie goes out in the opening stanza giving the track title to Vinje. A number of others move around at the top of the points ladder.

Pro
W - Ted Miller, Surrey BC, '70 Nova, 383 Chev, .093/11.48/11.531/114.12
RU - Chris Stone, Mission BC, '68 Dodge Dart 440, .140/10.35/10.375/122.11

Last year's champ wins the last race of the year, but it's Stone who puts on a nail-biter show lane-hunting Korfiatis (in the Phil Marvetz-loaned Duster) in round one moving on to make up all the rounds he needs to win the championship.

Sportsman
W - Don Elgin, DesMoines WA, '74 Pontiac, 400 Pontiac, .061/13.06/13.045/100.53
RU - Steve Adams, SeaTac WA, '81 Olds wagon, 350 Chev, .002/14.91/14.887/87.16

Track champ Adams ends the season in fine form, but it's the one, the only WORM taking the last win of '06...along with reminding your faithful webmaster later in the tower, that it was he not Adams who won the first race of the year here. Don Elgin also mentioned that this will be his last year running MRP. Love him or hate him, Worm is a character who will be missed by fans, but possibly not his competition.

Motorcycle
W - Kevin Brennan, Chilliwack, '92 Suzuki 1400, .040/9.03/9.079/142.74
Stew Kienas, Mission BC, '89 Honda, .063/11.29/11.276/108.23

The track title goes down to the final race of the year and it is the Suzuki stalwart from Chilliwack who comes out the champ. Kudos to Brennan who ran an outrageous fast stock machine during most of the Friday night races and almost always came out quick bike of the night.

Junior Dragster
W - Holly Clarke, Rosedale BC, '06 Creative, .114/9.04/9.045/70.18
RU - Travis Clarke, Rosedale BC, '06 Creative, .316/8.87/8.951/70.93

An all-Clarke family final was fun, especially for 13 year old Holly who won the race and took the track championship that went right down to the semifinals after Hope Allen lost in round two, then Alisha Ellers went out in the quarter finals.

Hot Rod
W - Zach 'Piston' Liston, Mt. Vernon WA, '55 Chev 468, .061/9.94/9.706/129.75
RU - Lynn Siemens, Abbotsford BC, '32 Bantam, 427 Chev, .110/8.98/9.023/140.97

A couple of 'outsiders' move from Pro into HR and meet in the final. Meanwhile Bill Clifford goes two more rounds than Martin Dykstra to take the championship.

Vancouver Community College Stock/Super Stock Combo
W - Alf Wiebe, Chilliwack BC, '70 Buick C/SA, 455 Buick, .073/10.39/10.415/121.35
RU - Rick McKinney, Richmond BC, '84 Oldsmobile SS/KA, 305 Olds, .037/10.73/10.722/122.71

What a day for these guys! Wheelstands like you dream about, numbers that only this place can muster this time of year, and a win by the chassis guru many consider the best in the business. Alf Wiebe's semifinal with his son Andrew was especially exciting. And then there is the champion, Shawn Blair driving the legendary 'Baron' Cuda of Frank Jones. Sponsor rep Greg Henderson was a happy guy and there's a rumor that Van Community College may well step up even more in 2007.

Lordco Super Combo
W - Stefan Kondolay (driving Jonny Gross' dragster) .025/8.90/8.897/159.88
RU - Dan Parsons, Powell River, '70 Duster 440, .033/10.90/10.882/128.47

Kondolay is leading the division in Super Gas, but he was in the gorgeous dragster of Johnny Gross this day getting by the racer who comes all the way from the sunshine coast race-after-race in the Duster Danny Parsons once ran at the old Mission Raceway. Warren Jacobson takes the series championship by one point over Al Hampton.

BC Super Shifters
W - Fred Pleines, Forks WA, 69 Camaro 509, .341/9.08/9.107/148.36
RU - Gordon Wagner, Vernon BC, '87 Charger 340, .026/9.19/9.183/143.76

Terry Hoogstins took the season long class championship in the class that continues to roll along and put on a superb show. Pleine's stunning '69 is a very welcome addition and to see Vernon driver Wagner make it to the final was great.
