Kent wins CMDRA Top Fuel Finale
Edmonton's Ken Kent won today's rain delayed
CMDRA season ending race in an anticlimactic
final over Ron Houniet. The final round
saw both riders struggle to gain traction
with Kent's .073/7.419/185.52 enough to
win over Houniet's .037/14.854.
Kent made it to the final running 6.86/193
in round one to get by Brian Hall's 8.57,
then he singled in round two with an easy
8.30 over a broken Rob Smith who had got
by Andy Beauchemin in round one with a 6.617/215.05.
Houniet took out Kevin Boyer in round one,
his 6.501/215.77 enough to both back up
his 6.47 CMDRA record and move on past Kevin
Boyer's 7.27. In round two few noticed the
red light in Mike Scott's lane as his 6.78/207
was wasted as Houniet blew the tire off
to a 7.57/205 victory.
In Pro Fuel, Sultan Washington's John Breckenridge
dominated with a 6.670/210.57 single in
round one before blasting by Andy Beauchemin's
game .041/6.756/206.09 in the final with
an awesome .087/6.562/198.80.
Pro Modified went to Kelowna's Gord Smith
with a wins over Clint Rabb in round one,
Gary Christopher in two then Terry Schweigert
in the final 7.403/194.59 to a .279/7.439/176.26.
Rod Anderson won Pro Dragster in a great
final against Woody Smith, the Monroe Washington
rider running .095/7.468/168.88 to win over
Smith's .101/7.638/169.45.
Modified went to Sherwood Park Alberta's
Kim Beauchemin (Andy's wife) when she ran
a great 8.835/137.29 beside Jeff Knowles
of Prince George who slowed with transmission
woes to a 9.621/141.17.
Ethan Berkley won Pro Street with a 9.012/181.34
win over Dan Green who ran .193/145.16.
Terry Brown won Super Gas over Chuck Reichet
.042/9.906/115.31 to a .080/9.863 break
out in the 9.90 category.
Cory Duncan claimed Superbike over Don
Fergin who pulled a -.006 red light and
Gerald Beatch won Street over Mark Hall
running a .140/11.213 on his 11.00 dial
to Hall's .004/12.164 break out on his 12.20.
In the East vs West Destroyer race it was
Nick Allen getting by Pete Thompson 9.31/139.94
to a 9.43/138.41.
Lorne Fullerton won Hot Harley over Rick
Baldwin 13.756 on his 13.80 to Baldwin's
11.152 on his 11.10 dial.

Smith and Houniet one two in Top Fuel
Langley's Rob Smith (photos) shocked
the CMDRA Top Fuel contingent here today
with a spectacular 6.438/215.31mph pass
to lead qualifying going into tomorrow's
first round. It was a personal best for
Smith and unofficially backs up an earlier
6.51 for a new CMDRA record.
Coming off a 6.42 in testing yesterday
Ron Houniet is number two with a 6.470/213.92mph
pass that for most others would be great,
but the Maple Ridge rider is looking for
30s on the somewhat tricky surface.
Mike Scott is third at 6.679/216.60, followed
by Brian Hall at 7.037/209.59, Ken Kent
in fifth with a 7.044/186.91, the Victoria's
Damian Cownden sixth with a 7.133/195.35,
Kevin Boyer's 7.171/190.39 is good for seventh
and Andy Beauchemin rounds out the eight
bike field with a 7.242/174.04.
Not qualified are:
Jody York 7.278/192.80 (but he did run a
personal best 6.61/213.61 in a late afternoon
test)
John Bryce 7.685/132.76
Jim Schellenberg 7.933/154.93
Lyle Newton 8.087/173.04
Greg McLean 8.659/135.91
In Pro Fuel John Breckenridge leads with
a massive 6.639/214.79, Beauchemin second
at 6.809/207.13. Stadnick's 7.170/181.85
rounds out the three bike field.
In Pro Mod there were lots of broken parts
but the ever consistent Gord Smith leads
at 7.191/193.96 followed by Woodburn's Terry
Marsh at 7.229/182.18, Terry Schweigert
third with a 7.392/181.85, and Gary Christopher
fourth at 7.481/177.54. Eight bikes will
go into round one with Smith facing Clint
Rabb who blew the tires off on every pass
today.
In Pro Street Ethan Berkley leads five
bikes with an 8.093/181.12. Second, and
the only other bike in the eights is Dan
Green at 8.832/160.05.
With weather threatening tomorrow a few
rounds of the street and Superbike classes
were run today.
In exhibition car action Shawn Cowie ran
a nice 5.44/263, Mike Kunz in Leo Grocock's
dragster made three consecutive passes in
the 5.7 range, and Don Murray is creeping
up on the six second 200mph zone with a
personal best of 7.02/197 in his new Pro
Street Corvette.
Gates open at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow with racing
starting approx. 10:00 a.m.

Houniet flies to personal best 6.42/215.62
in test session
Maple Ridge Top Fuel kingpin Ron Houniet
laid down the gauntlet here in testing today
with the quickest run he has ever made.
"We blew the tire off on the first
hit, and I just rolled into the throttle
on that one". Needless to say the starting
line will be better tomorrow so if the champ
can leave hard, something better than the
current 6.41 track record and even a thirty
is most certainly within the realm of possibility.
Don't miss tomorrow's action as conditions
are expected to be excellent as the quickest
and fastest two wheelers in the country
attack one of the best surfaces in the sport.
A few cars will also be out and will include,
among others, Don Murray's Pro Street Corvette,
the famed Kokomotion Henry J and an all
new blown alcohol front motored dragster
for Mike Peck.
Records May Fall and New Top Fuel
King to be Crowned at CMDRA Finale
Ken Kent
Going into the final race of the Canadian
Motorcycle Drag Racing Association season
this weekend at Mission Raceway Park, it
appears that Edmonton's Ken Kent will be
crowned the 2007 Top Fuel Champion.
This ends an eleven year in-a-row run by
Ron Houniet who did not attend all the CMDRA
races this season as he was debuting not
only a new bike, but a new engine design.
Kent was the most previous champion prior
to Houniet's run back in 1995.
With conditions looking good for this race,
and some recent performances at other events,
the record book could take a trashing this
weekend.
Ron Houniet
In Top Fuel, the current 6.41 track record
by Jason Arkinstall could be in jeopardy
as Houniet ran an easy 6.43 at Seattle in
late August in conditions not as good as
we expect here this weekend. Look for a
few riders out to challenge the MRP mark.

John Breckenridge
Also at Seattle in August John Breckenridge
ran the second quickest number ever recorded
for a Pro Fueler with a spectacular 6.58,
just a couple of thousands off the all-time
mark.

Clint Rabb
The nitrous and turbo Pro Mod racers have
also seen some amazing times this season.
In Medicine Hat Clint Rabb has run 210 and
211 on his turbo/nitrous Kawasaki and Tony
Clizbe has gone as quick as 7.15 at the
same facility. Look for these guys and more
to fly at Mission.

Ethan Barkley
In Pro Street, Calgary's Ethan Barkley ran
an amazing 8.03/183 at Grand Bend last month,
so he'll be looking to break into the sevens
here at Mission.
It all boils down to a spectacular finish
to the season and it all begins Friday when
a number of racers will be out to test then
on to time trails Saturday and racing Sunday.
