Funny Car final video
Weekend

We had no idea that Derek Snelson and Kyle
Skidgel were gonna stick around and hang
in there for Sunday. After a day-and-a-half
of rain at MRP the jet cars came out and
put on a show in the late afternoon sun
that was perhaps the single most spectacular
feature car moment in the history of MRP.

For Immediate Release
Jet Cars Blast Into Mission!
Vancouver, B.C., August 17, 2007
For the first time ever, Mission Raceway
Park will play host on Saturday, August
25 to two of the most awe-inspiring vehicles
in the sport of drag racing - jet-powered
Funny Cars - in The Vancouver Community
College Night of Fire presented by Boston
Pizza and the Province Newspaper.
Yes, these two full-bodied cars are propelled
by actual jet aircraft engines to speeds
over 250 mph in approximately six seconds
in the quarter-mile, trailed by flame and
smoke all the way to the finish line. Jet-powered
cars have long been the premier exhibition
class in drag racing, and Mission is the
place to see these two monsters, Warhawk
versus Nitehawk, scorching the track.
The two jet cars are the feature attraction
on the Saturday night of a full weekend
of racing at Mission. Preceding them in
qualifying runs on Saturday will be the
Nitro-fueled Nostalgia Dragsters from California,
which will then race in eliminations on
Sunday afternoon. These cars, themselves
capable of hitting 250 mph in under 6 seconds,
recall the dragsters of 40 years ago, with
their engines in front of the driver, but
of course, they are equipped with all modern
performance and safety features. The sound
of two nitro-fueled cars is too loud to
describe, and the smoke and flame they produce
is an assault on the senses.
Other classes of racing at Mission will
include the RJ Enterprises Canada West Doorslammers
Association, the fastest group of stock-bodied
cars in B.C., the Canadian Pro Street Association
with their outrageous street-legal cars,
and the Vancouver Community College Stock/Super
Stock racers with their wild, wheelstanding
muscle cars.
Itll be an action-packed two days,
with something for every fan of racing.
Gates open Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 am.
The Jet Funny Cars run Saturday ONLY, at
6:00 and 9:00 pm, preceded by the Nostalgia
Nitro Dragsters at 5:30 and 8:30 pm. On
Sunday, the Nitro Dragsters kick off the
action at noon, followed by all the other
classes.
Admission on Saturday is $25 including
pit pass, and Sunday is only $20.00, plus
$5.00 for pit pass. Accompanied children
12 and under are free.
Featuring the Nighthawk and the Warhawk
Jet Funny Cars (Saturday Only) at 6:00 p.m.
and 9:00 p.m.
Plus the All
American Fuel Dragsters competing in
a points race for their organization. They
qualify Saturday approx. 30 minutes before
the jets then run eliminations Sunday.
